2011 sees the launch of some fabulous and exciting new Meet and Greet Experiences here on Rent A Date For Charity, and to get things off to a flying start, we at Team Connell have persuaded our very own Founder, the gorgeous, inspirational and multi-talented Lisa Connell, to put herself up for grabs for some cracking Auction Dates in aid of her campaign to raise awareness of Brain Cancer and other well deserving causes.

Lisa is passionate about life and all those who play a part in it. She’s a fun-loving, vivacious, up for anything (well, almost!) 21st Century girl blessed with drive and compassion in equal measures, and is calling for your support to enable her to use her appetite for living to bring hope to those suffering with brain tumours and other serious conditions and help them live their lives to the max!

In 2006, Lisa was at the peak of her energy and youth and enjoying a successful career in property when at the age of 26, she was diagnosed with a benign but inoperable Meningioma (Brain Tumour), which is deemed terminal by her nurosurgeon. With her health subsequently deteriorating and a daunting prognosis from the medical profession, Lisa faced the prospect of losing her faculties and mobility, a lifeless future and a painful, heartbreaking decline. She was already experiencing many debilitating symptoms:  impaired walking and balance, severe headaches, vision and speech problems, memory loss and constant fatigue. And all the while, nobody knew exactly how long Lisa had to live. According to her specialist, the tumour is like a time bomb primed to detonate at any time.

But with inspiration and support from a fellow brain tumour sufferer who had overcome the odds to escape a destiny confined to a wheelchair, Lisa found the drive and determination to alter the course of her life and get as fit and healthy as possible, giving her the strength and the ability to raise awareness of those affected by Brain Tumours and other lesser known life threatening conditions.

Lisa wanted to raise those all-important funds and generate awareness in a fun way, a way that she could also enjoy too.  So, having put herself back on the dating scene, she was told that people would pay to go out on a date for her – so she said “Ok then, put your money where your mouth is” and so Rent A Date For Charity was born!

Since then Lisa’s story and fundraising initiatives have become a highly regarded source of inspiration, captivating the media, other sufferers and healthy individuals alike and attracting a myriad of influential organisations and some lovely celebrity supporters. Her work as an entrepreneur, media spokesperson, model, presenter and charity campaigner has proved that with grit and determination, nothing is impossible and dreams can become a reality. Lisa has been offered the opportunity to train as a Permanent Cosmetic Artist and her recent qualification as an HD Brow Technician is enabling her to use her passion for helping others to feel better about themselves whilst raising funds for her cause and benefiting cancer patients suffering from hair loss.

2010 also saw Lisa launch Guardian Angel Events which is involved with the management of some very special Fundraising Events, Dating and Celebrity Auctions and Charity Balls which have raised a significant amount for charitable causes.

Since being diagnosed, Lisa has had the privilege to meet some truly inspirational young people who, like herself, have Brain Tumours or other life threatening conditions:  she calls them her “Angels” – children who are fighting life threatening conditions.    It is meeting and helping these very special young people that keeps Lisa motivated to succeed in raising £1 million for charitable causes before she dies.
